Some belated news on the hugely successful 6th World Homeshare Congress, which took place earlier this year in Brussels. Our Australian delegation — comprising Home Share Melbourne coordinator Carla Raynes along with HANZA’s Beris Campbell — enjoyed and benefitted hugely from the Congress.

The Congress’s theme this year was “Celebrating Homeshare”, and it was great fun — and very stimulating — to mix with  the Homeshare world to celebrate the idea that brought us all together. Networking amongst the many and varied Homeshare program providers was extremely valuable, showing that we all share similar challenges but also triumphs.

We also heard lots of new ideas. One in particular that really appealed was the French “Accordé” initiative, which encouraged Homeshare programs to form relations with the corporate world — not to seek money, but to alert companies to the serious and often under-acknowledged issue of lost productivity from staff who have care responsibilities for ageing parents, and to how a program like Homeshare can help address the problem.

We have seen examples of this here in Australia: when senior professionals and executives are living far from their parents, introducing a homesharer into the equation can make all the difference. Knowing that their parents are being managed safely at home can give peace of mind to adult children, whatever their occupations.

Some of the presentations are now available to download on the Homeshare International website, including the French presentation on the Accordé program. There are also lots of lovely photos of the happy occasion!
