Annette Madden OAM RN has had a long and distinguished career in aged care. In her early work as a Community Nurse and then later as manager of an Aged Care Assessment Service, it was always clear to her that most older people would prefer to live in their own homes whenever possible.
Annette’s wide experience in this sector also showed that residential care often falls short of being ideal, despite all efforts from staff and management striving to meet residents’ needs. So it was with great enthusiasm that Annette joined the original group starting up Homeshare in Australia back in 1997. From 2011 Annette held the position of Vice President of the HANZA Committee of Management and in 2015 was honoured to accept the nomination for President when Shirley Anderson stepped down from the position. In 2018, she was awarded a medal of the Order of Australia in recognition of her long and distinguished career in aged care.
She offered her resignation from the Committee at the 2019 AGM. We are sad to see her go, and wish her all the best!
